Side Stones

Rings with a centre/multiple stones in the centre and diamonds or gemstones in the band are called side stones.

Their purpose is to add a bit of bling to the ring – often to set off the centre stone/s.
Traditionally these shoulder/side stones are round diamonds which capture the light to create a sparkle to draw more attention to the centre stone/s.
Shoulder stones aren’t limited to just diamond, often sapphire, ruby or emerald are the popular choices.
There are several different ways to set stones. Claw set is the most popular setting type, allowing maximum light to come into the shoulder stones and illuminate them. Pave sets and gypsy set are other popular setting types.
