FAQ FOR SELLERS

How do I sell Jewellery through AJ & W Auctions?

All you need to do is book in a time for your Jewellery or watches to be viewed. At the booking we will go through your items and give you an idea of what it might be worth at Auction and what costs there will be with selling it.

Are my Jewellery & Watches insured while they are with you?

Yes, once a consignment document is signed, any Jewellery or Watches are covered under our Insurance Policy. We are happy to send you a copy of our certificate of currency for your records. Jewellery and Watches are stored securely, our offices have up to date security.

How do I know I am going to get a good price?

We spend as much time giving you as many options as we can to make sure you are able to make the best decision. The second hand market for Jewellery is very different from the retail market for new Jewellery. The Buyers profile is completely different and constantly changing. At the end of the day we give you a guide based on our experience and you get to decide whether you take our advice. At the end of the day the market will decide what your Jewellery or Watch is worth, and you can be rest assured that you will be given all the information you need to make the best decision for you.

What is a sellers Premium?

The sellers Premium is the % that AJ & W makes on the sale of the Jewellery Items or Watches. Currently we charge Sellers 20%  (Plus any repairs that have been undertaken) for item sales under $5,000. For Items over $5,000 the sellers Premium is 15%  and over $25,000 the sellers premium is 10%. The sellers premium is our payment for administrating, insuring and promoting our auctions of Jewellery and Watches to our clients on your behalf.

So for example (not including any repairs or restorations) – You sell something for $5,000 at Auction. The Sellers Premium will be 15% = $750. You are paid $4,250

That item if you were to sell it for scrap value or to a second hand dealer, you may only get $700 to $900

If my Jewellery or Watch needs repairing or restoration, who pays for it?

We are able to offer a number of options. Every Jewellery and Watch before they are listed goes through a cleaning process to make sure they photograph well and are ready for their new home. We look at everything on a case by case basis. We need to start by making an assessment of the item, and deciding if it is something that will sell at auction, and how much it will cost. In most cases we will undertake this work on your behalf and the cost of any repairs will be deducted from the selling price.

For Example (including repair or restoration). You sell something for $5,000 at Auction. There is some repair work that is needed which is quoted at $330. The Sellers Premium will be 15% = $375 + GST of 10% = $825. Less the repair costs of $330. You are paid $3,845

I’ve changed my mind, I don’t want to sell, how do I get my Jewellery or Watch back?

Of course – this is not a problem. If there have been no repairs or restorations, there is no fee to take your Jewellery or Watch back. You just need to let us know, we can remove the listing if it is listed in an auction, and you will need to organise to have your items picked up. If there was any repairs or restorations, that will need to be paid prior to items being released.

How long does the auction take?

We run an auction starting every week and ending on Sunday. We aim to list between 40 and 100 items. We also have a number of items that are available to purchase at a fixed price.

When will I be paid?

Buyers are asked to pay within 48 hours of an auction closing, and immediately when purchasing a fixed price item. We aim to release payment to sellers (less repair costs and sellers premium) within 24 hours of payment being received and prior to items being shipped to their new home.

I’ve bought something that needs to be resized - what are the costs and how do I organise it?

As we have both a Jewellery and Watch workshop on site, we are able to undertake any adjustments on the spot. The best way is to organise to come in so we are able to make sure we have the right size. If you are already certain of your size you are welcome to let us know in the comments/message section when you are checking out. Some items come with complimentary resizing, all others we will be able to quote you and charge separately via Anania Family Jewellers.
